Rookie All Star = Long Career

NHL Rookie All Star teams have been named at the conclusion of the season since 1983.  Players selected to the teams have had significantly longer careers than the average player.  Position does not matter; Forwards, Defensemen and Goalies selected to the Rookie All Star team all tend to excel early and produce for a long time.   The first 15 Rookie All Star Teams have produced 14 HOF'ers to be joined in the future by Brodeur, Pronger, Alfredsson and Iginla.

The 25th Rookie All Star Team was announced at the end of the 2007-2008 Season and the games played of those 150 Rookie All Stars (R.A.S.) are summarized here. Early returns of the latest six Rookie All Star Teams shows that this relationship is only getting stronger.

75 Forwards   Quanthockey.com provides excellent breakdowns of Games Played for NHL players who played their last game before or during the 2009-10 NHL Season.  Comparing the Rookie All Star.  Forwards with all other players we see that over 74% of forwards played 400 or less games, whereas only 13.3 of the Rookie All Stars did.

24% of the Rookie All Star Forwards from the first 25 teams have already played 1,000 games compared to 4.3% of all retired players.
